Storms are loud. They strike, they shake things, and they can be damaging. The spiritual storms we experience in life are sudden, emotional, scary, dark, endless and maybe even violent. They affect our personal lives mentally and physically. They affect our family, friends and those we are most closest to. Right now you are probably in the midst of a storm, entering a storm or exiting one. They happen to everyone and they are very common. Many storms are out of our control; we don’t know when they are coming and how long they will last. They are unavoidable. God may put us through something to teach us to rely on him more and less on ourselves or material things of this world. When we try to fix on our own problems without seeking the help of our heavenly Father, we fail and our problems are worse than when they started. This is called leaning on your own understanding. Something we are all guilty of, even myself. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not to your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths” NKJV. God will continue to show his faithfulness to us no matter what we go through. We must stand firm in the midst of a storm and claim God’s Peace! One of my favorite verses is in the book of Philippians 4:6-7, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” NKJV. I encourage you to seek God during a spiritual storm and continue to worship Him in spirit and in truth, ask for His will to be done in your life, and declare his peace over your situation.
