For God to be a priority in your life, you must make him a priority. When we want something, we work hard to get it. Why not have the same attitude when it comes to our Heavenly father who provides us with everything we need? God gave us free will which means he left it up to us to choose him or ourselves. It is easy to choose ourselves and ignore the fact that Jesus died for our sins. But is this the right way? Unfortunately not, choosing ourselves over our Savior leads to a selfish, sinful lifestyle and this will only leave us with temporary satisfaction. We are fleshly beings and we must submit to God so that we can be led by the Holy Spirit to do what is good and pleasing to God. We must model the behavior of Jesus. Make time for God so that you can get to know him and develop a real relationship instead of just going to him in times of trouble. God wants to hear from us all the time, not just when it is convenient for us. Below are some ways where you can start making God a priority in your life.
- Spend time with God daily by reading your bible
- Worship him through acts of service (Good works)
- Through prayer and fasting
- Giving Thanks to God daily, praise him through good and bad (in all things give thanks)
- Go to God 1st (He is always listening when others are not willing to)
- Meditate on Proverbs 3: 5-6 (“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not to your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge him and he shall direct your paths.”)
- Follow all his commandments, not just the first 10.
- Seek the kingdom of God and his righteousness
- Obedience is better than sacrifice!
- Don’t limit yourself to this list, there is so much more you can do!
