You are the Salt of the Earth, Light of the World

Matthew 5: 13-16 “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.” You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” NKJV.

As believers, we must be the salt that seasons the places and people we encounter. If salt was tasteless, then what good would it serve? In the verse above, I believe Jesus is trying to encourage us to make sure our relationships stay satisfying. Our behavior should resemble that of Jesus. He was active in ministry, faithful to God, sincere, patient, humble, obedient, giving, and so much more! Now, Jesus was also perfect and without sin; two things that we will never be because we are human. Although none of us can compare to Jesus, we can do our best to follow his behavior and commit to a real relationship with him.

As believers, we must be a light in dark places. God has given us spiritual gifts, talents and abilities that we should use to glorify him and bring Heaven to Earth. It is up to us as believers to spread Jesus throughout the world and teach about him being crucified. Jesus is the light of the world and if we truly follow him, we will not walk in darkness but will carry the light of life. In Genesis 1:3-4, God created light and He saw the light and that it was good. He also divided the light from the darkness. The reason I included this scripture is because God was intentional from the very beginning! His light lives in us and we must not hide ourselves to make others feel good. I encourage you to let your light shine wherever you go.
